Wood Tavern - Best of Oakland

Wood Tavern has been a top spot since its opening at College Avenue. This rustic, small and family style restaurant, where is often bustling with noise, offers amazing California-inspired dishes that feature sustainable and locally sourced ingredients.
I am so delightful to be served by a super-friendly bartender, who worked at Posto Pubblico (same group as Stone Nullah Tavern) years ago. I am also told that their Chef was used to work at Peninsula Hotel in Hong Kong.
From their delectable list of food on the menu, it comes to the highly raved crispy pork belly. The pan seared pork belly is superbly excellent. Cooked with crispy skin, succulently tender meat and indulgently fatty layers; this juicy piece of meat is accompanied by a very nice peach jalapeno salsa and mustard grains. Not to mention the two note worthy cipollini onions on the side, which are also executed perfectly with sweet caramelization.
As I struggle between the butterscotch custard and blueberry cheesecake sundae, the bartender recommends the latter one.
This huge mug compiles of house churned cream cheese ice cream, followed by blueberry compote and finally graham cracker crumbs. Imagine a frozen no bake blueberry cheesecake, this decadent sundae is heaven!
Truthfully, this meal has been very heart-warming and enjoyable. I am certainly recommending this restaurant to who are coming to Oakland for an experience of true American flavor in the neighborhood.
