The Slanted Door - Rewarding Vietnamese Food

At the north east corner of Ferry Building Marketplace, this floor-to-ceiling glasshouse is opened by the award-winning chef of San Francisco, Charles Phan. Led by the Phan’s family, The Slanted Door is known for their traditional Vietnamese food that call for top-quality and sustainable ingredients. Accompanied by the breath-taking scenery of the bay, the restaurant serves lunch, afternoon tea and dinner all year round, offering a long and comfy cocktail bar as well as outdoor seatings to enjoy their top notch street food, entrees and apparently phenomenal desserts.
Starting off with a raw appetizer, the three spoons of uni are completely uber fresh. Each is topped with enticing black tobiko and crunchy note of sea salt in addition to the amazingly creamy yet tangy avocado mousse underneath; some julienned cucumbers are also found within the avocado puree.
Undoubtedly, this refreshing combination is to die for!
To follow, I am recommended to try a Vietnamese rice paper roll, which is named after the restaurant, instead of the popular imperial roll. The rice paper rolls are filled with thinly sliced pork meat, sweet half-sliced poached shrimp, fresh lettuce and al dente rice noodles.
I am especially fond of the robust aftertaste coming from the mint leaves, as well as the slightly sweet, nutty and delectably flavourful peanut dipping sauce.
All in all, The Slanted Door has presented a wonderful late lunch with delicious food, great environment and excellent service. It is undoubted that they are often crowded with people especially during weekend.
