The Saint - Are You Saint?

The Saint is a new British gastro pub at Elgin Street Soho. It has a very welcoming yet sophisticated ambience, while serving classic comfort foods such as fish n' chips, scotch egg and British pie. We start off with nibbles of their starters. The boar scotch egg that is wrapped with smoked bacon, has a hard boiled egg with an oozy yolk and an outer layer of boar pork meat.
The undoubtedly indulgent roasted bone marrow has knocked my socks off with its complexity, creaminess and fattiness, especially when enjoyed on the toasted sourdough slices that also come with bacon jam, herby salad made with parsley and buttery roasted mushrooms.
The cheesy camembert cubes are so creamy and soft, fried with herbed breadcrumbs and served with a sweet cranberry preserve.
We finish our sweet appetites with a lemon crumb. Refreshing, zestful and a dense layer of crumbs, it is deliciously contrasted by a scoop of simple coffee ice cream. For sure their simple menu won't disappoint you.

Glasshouse - Rooftop Delight

Located at the rooftop of IFC, with a spacious terrace and stunning Harbor view, Glasshouse is a very relaxing restaurant that provides a fusion of Asian Thai cuisine with western cooking techniques. There are array of finger foods,  small and big bites, salad, mains to pair with their extensive choices of drinks and cocktails.
A recommended bite-size dish is the crispy tempura smelt fish that comes with a mayonnaise dip mixed with spicy kimchi.
The refreshing rice paper roll is filled with colourful mixture of red beetroot, Mexican avocado, Norwegian smoked salmon, tiger prawn, mints and garnished with my favourite salmon roe. Along with the Italian white balsamic dip, this combination is very international.
The caesar salad, made with crunchy lettuce, is also marked with textbook perfect fried egg with runny yolk and jumbo soft shell crab.
Last but not least, we cannot leave the restaurant without their signature dessert. Banana creme bruleed with muscovado sugar, set with a blue alcoholic flame and served with a mini cup of strong espresso.
It is also great to finish the meal with a mocktail made rustically with sweet coconut cream and milk with foamy layer and crushed hazelnut.

XTC Gelato - Scoop of Lemon Pepper

Among the ice cream industry in Hong Kong, you might not notice XTC Gelato. With no pretentious, the XTC recipe uses low fat Australian milk and makes gelato from scratch. They have been changing their menu for every season, providing new flavors associated with their smooth gelato texture.
This season, lemon pepper is one of the innovative creations. It has a tangy scent plus an extraordinary black pepper heat. Another recent popular one is the pineapple bun gelato. Consists of bits and pieces of real pineapple bun crust within the creamy milk gelato, you will definitely find satisfaction.

The Continental - British Crystal House

This spacious and elegant crystal house is located at the Pacific Place. It runs all day from breakfast to lunch, brunch on the weekend, and dinner with an intimate ambience. The restaurant serves British classic food, but also you’ll find inspirations of some French and Italian cuisines on their menu.
The 3 course lunch set starts off with a fresh tomato salad with salted anchovies and a simple olive oil vinaigrette dressing, amazing plating and very delightful.
We followed with a steamed fillet of hake, similar to white cod, has perfect flakiness, served over a bed of sea-salted crispy samphire. It is also topped with a piece of batter-fried oyster and citrus sauce.
For a hot starter, the possibly 3-egg omelette is delectably fluffy, with the inside wobbly cooked and stuffed with morel mushrooms.
A Chef’s signature griddled scallops are exceptionally sweet, with chestnut puree and zesty lemon rinds, both have given the plumpy scallops an extra lift and refreshment.
We complete our set lunch with an unfussy banana caramel tart tatin, which comes with a jar of vanilla custard.
To be completely indulgenced, the decadent paris brest has been filled with generous creamy praline cream. The chocolate souffle is also remarkable in term of its texture, which is instantly perfected with a dollop of pistachio ice cream and the pouring of rich gooey chocolate sauce. It is so satisfying!

Jamie's Italian Hong Kong - Epic Brownie

Jamie Oliver is in town! After a recent visit to the celebrity Chef’s restaurant, Bread Street Kitchen, I have decided to try out another one but with an Italian twist. Jamie’s Italian. As the name implies, it offers Italian cuisine that is exceptionally affordable and comfortable. The restaurant is very artsy with a hipster atmosphere at the Jamie’s Bar. Instead of their great quality antipasti such as bruschetta and cured meat, or homemade pasta and pizza, we come to have some sweet treats. The brownie is indeed fudgy, dense, and yet retain slightly cakery. It has been perfectly complimented with a scoop of gelato, which could have pronounced more of its caramel flavor, and addicting caramelized popcorns. This is a really really epic brownie!
I would highly recommend to try this lemon pie with beautiful dollops of toasted meringue. An ordinary shortcrust pastry, with a citrusy limoncello curd filling plus stunning layer of burnt egg white meringue, not to mention the candied lemons and crunchy pistachio brittles on the side, the pie is just a scrumptious one. This place certainly worth visiting!

Zen Too 小蝶 - Butterfly Effect

Zen Too, is described as a small butterfly. This new fusion restaurant is a daughter branch of Zen, which used to be located in Pacific Place at Admiralty. The food here are served exquisitely mini portions, tricky named and with lots of creative simplicity. A favourite small dish is runny smoked egg plated in a cute little spoon, with a soft exterior and presents a very strong tea aroma.
Another creative dish is sweet and sour pork, diced in extremely small bites, serving over half-cut pineapple bun. However, the bun could have been presented at higher temperature and toastier.
I especially love the deep fried tofu. In spite of its awkward appearance, the inside is as silky as egg white pudding.
The souffle mountain is also a remarkable one with fluffy and airy egg white covering bits and pieces of bitter melons. The restaurant also serve dim sum during the afternoon at a friendly price range. I think it can be a great place for a family lunch gathering.

Cake's Secrets 詩餅坊 - Butterfly Secret

The secret behind this cake shop or bakery, is that the Head Chef used to work at a renowned bakery somewhere in Hong Kong. One might expect high quality cakes from them, and surely you won't be disappointed. A signature is this purple swirl of mountain, with a dense coating of purple sweet potato puree surrounding layers of sweetened whipped cream and sponge cake. While the bottom is a simple biscuit crust, the top is garnished with a beautiful yet edible butterfly. It's both palatally and visually impressive!
Another signature is undoubtedly popular. As it consists of green tea sponge cakes sandwiched between red bean whipped cream. The combination never fails. I especially love the crunchy meringue cones, which are basically made with egg whites and the sweetness is not as overwhelming as French macarons.
I'm not sure if this is the right season to pick up some fresh figs, but this tart is indeed stunning. The shortbread crust is flaky yet a bit lack butteriness, the cream filling contributes as an additional foundation for those figs that are surprisingly fresh and naturally sweet. This tart is another must-try!

Godiva Chocolatier - Velvety Indulgence

This summer, GODIVA the Belgian Chocolatier is introducing a new soft serve flavor in Hong Kong. A velvety smooth vanilla blended with white chocolate, I am impressed. Despite I never like white chocolate and the soft serve seems to melt too quickly, it is still so irresistible to me especially with that indulgently silky texture. The soft serve has a choice to twist with dark chocolate version, which are equally luscious, and both have been captured in their crispy waffle cone dipped in dusting of chocolate crunch biscuits.

Bread Street Kitchen & Bar - My Hero's Kitchen

Hong Kong is such a lucky place to have restaurants opened by famous Chefs like Jamie Italian by Jamie Oliver and BSK by Gordon Ramsay. I've been looking forward to visiting his restaurant and to have a blast with his food. Now I'm here! Some well toasted and crusty breads are first served at every table in a fancy gunny bag, along with a knob of butter.
While everyone is going for the popular tamarind spiced chicken wings, I decided to have a light king crab cocktail, dressed with creamy mayo, tossed with crunchy fresh lettuces, a few green apple slices for an added crunch, and dusting of pink peppercorn that gives pleasant presentation. The portion is just right as a small bite.
Since brunch dishes are offered at the weekend, we get this egg dish for the Egg Benedict Day. The bacon is fried perfectly with crispy texture. While the English muffin is so wonderfully toasted in butter, the poached eggs are indeed impressive, cooked excellently with runny yolk, soft egg white and their homemade Hollandaise sauce is certainly the taste I adore.
Apart from beef wellington, the sticky toffee pudding is also a Gordon Ramsay’s handy signature. The banana pudding is completely drenched in an insatiable yet thick butterscotch-like sauce, topped with a smooth scoop of high quality clotted cream, and each bite are brought together in an extremely delectable way. How I wish I could have gotten the pineapple carpaccio too! Anyways, make sure to drop by BSK for some British comfort food!

DALLOYAU - Opera Sensation

To continue exploring more French cafes in Hong Kong, Le Cafe Dalloyau is an equally popular one as Angelina Paris. The chocolate finger-like cake is named by the Head Chef’s grandmother as Opera. The thousand layers of gorgeously rich chocolate ganache, a sense of luscious almond flavor within thin-cut coffee sponge cake, this intense coffee aroma is undoubtedly their signature gateau.
A combination of choux and puff pastries, ornamented with silky Chantilly cream has become another favorite here. You can visually see real vanilla pods being added in the smooth cream presenting a wonderful light essence.
In case of not getting enough layering and pastry delight, the mille feuille is also a magnificent choice. Again, the puff pastries have been caramelized slightly, with crispy edges and stacked together with a yellowish whilst sweet pastry cream.
Eventually, Dalloyau cafe is probably the best spot for some luscious French patisseries.
