Arome vs Maria - The Egg Tart Battle!

The egg tart battle is here! Who makes the best egg tart? I personally favor short crust more than puff pastry crust. And the criteria for a good egg tart should have a thick and rich custard, a yellow eggy interior with hint of sweetness. A favourite of mine would be from Maria's Bakery. The silky and sweet egg custard is not overwhelmed by the slightly salty short crust pastry. Another new favorite is the Hokkaido milk egg white tart from Arome Bakery. The egg white tart has been reheated in the oven for 10 minutes, resembling a sloppy milk pudding inside a buttery cookie crust. Hmm!!

Jasmine Place 怡翠軒 - Dim Sum Palace

Crowded. Very crowded on a Sunday afternoon at Jasmine Place, another restaurant presented by the Maxim's.
The puff pastries stuffed with honey char siu pork is freshly baked with a piping hot filling and served on a beautiful platter. From the traditional bamboo steamer, this bun has my favourite sesame paste filling leaking like molten lava, it is undeniably scrumptious! And finally, the gooey jelly roll gives an aromatic sesame aftertaste, very light and refreshing.

Maxim's Cake 美心西餅 - 3.9 Milkiness

Hello Cow Cow! Recently, Maxim's Bakery has come up with a series of Organic Australian Milk Cakes. The use of 3.9% milk content organic milk makes the cream filling extra creamy and delicious. The milkiness is so unexpectedly luscious, smooth and perfectly sweet. Even though the chocolate area, made with natural bamboo charcoal powder, could be more pronounced, the egg white sponge is light, fluffy like a pillow. All in all, this is not a bad one.

Dong Lai Shun 東來順 - Michelin Star Experience

This is an awesome Michelin Star Experience from the Chef. At Causeway Bay, Dong Lai Shun has opened a second restaurant at the Mid Town. The menu is simple but none of them are rustically made. From the appetizer plate, I personally favor the smoked egg with amazingly runny yolk, with intense smoky aftertaste. The drunken chicken is made boneless with fragrant Hua Diao wine.
The best of the night is this Gold Distinction Awarded dish, with crab and lobster meat cooked in salted egg yolk, paired with crispy rice cracker, a fried taro chip and alongside a tiny crab-shaped ginger jelly. This is just a heavenly dish. Between the two style cooked prawns, the river shrimps in seaweed have surprisingly won my liking. It is not rubbly at all but very juicy and tender. The double boiled soup is as expected to be made generously with gluey fish maw. Next favourite of the night is this oxtail, braised in flavorful black vinegar sauce. Extremely succulent, tender and serve in a hot claypot per pax. The seasonal veggie is Chinese spinach. The dinner also ends with three fancy petits, a mochi roll, a refreshing rose jelly and this lovely sesame ball filled with custard lava. Gooey, molten and piping HOT!
Thanks parent for this amazing dinner. I know I am once again spoiled to the max :)

Pausa - Softest Gelato Break

Espresso! The Pausa's gelato is always prepared at the moment, with no preservatives, low sugar and fat content. This week Tiramisu is indeed luscious; and I absolutely love the rose and flower garnishes; a very classy and modern ornament. The creamy Italian soft serve is served in this artistic glass, layered between cornflakes and chocolate cereal crunches at the bottom. Not to mention that beautiful swirl, the texture is meltingly soft, which has been what I am looking for. And to be frank, this is my favorite gelato in town!
Pausa also has homemade pizza and pasta. This pizza base is fluffy, thick and focaccia like; topped with basic cheeses and tomato sauce. While the version with ham and mushrooms is very homey, salami and tomato is also amazing! These thick whilst soft pizza bites are nowhere bite-size in fact, but larger!

Mazazu Crepe - Milky Cone In Town

Apart from Mother's crepe signature crepes, they are known to showcase one of the milkiest soft serve ice cream in Hong Kong. As they use 100% Hokkaido milk for their soft serve cone, it is nowhere complainable that it is as milky as drinking a cup of cold milk. Surely it has high milk content, but it is much lighter in texture but smooth still. Although it has a terrible cracking waffle cone, I am glad they fill it with ice cream all the way from top to bottom.

The Coffee Academics - Cinnamon Coffee Heaven

The Coffee Academics has been an internationally recognised coffee expert. They offer salad, sandwiches, pasta, and most importantly, amazing desserts and delightful freshly brewed coffee. For the afternoon, I order this wonderful treat. A very indulging but absolutely worth for the fat belly. With Spanish churros dusted with cinnamon sugar, crispy edges and chewy interior; dipped in the warm chocolate fudge and meltingly cold espresso ice cream. This is a heaven on earth!

Oddies - Fusion Eggette

It has been a while back when I first visited Oddies Foodies. I could still recall their smooth homemade vanilla gelato with gingery sorbet and buttery cookie crumbs - the Dr Oddie. During this time around the Lunar New Year, Oddies once again creates a new fusion item, an egg puff stuffed with pieces of Chinese preserved sausages. According to my personal opinion, in spite of the soft egg waffle that is not crispy enough, the preserved sausages have given a savory chewiness and slightly added a surprising scent to this ordinary street snack.

The Lobby Lounge - Movenpick Hotel

Lastly, we end this wonderful Cebu trip, after our Japanese Boat Dinner, at this artistic, modern and lively hotel. The real Movenpick. At the lounge, they offer decent drinks and foods, specializes in the freshly brewed Movenpick coffee and my favourite commercial brand ice cream - the Movenpick! There are ice cream sundaes, or they call them combos, for us to choose from. The European Iced Coffee is just a more elegant presentation of a normal cup of affogato, with whipped cream and good coffee at the bottom. Toffee Crunch is simple enough. Some chocolate crunchies and crushed biscuits over the maple walnut ice cream. Who can resist this?

KUHKAI Japanese Seafood Restaurant 空海 - Boat of Happiness

The moment you step into this Japanese restaurant, you will notice an open bar as well as a visible kitchen, with Japanese Chefs preparing all the authentic dishes. Even though the restaurant is more on a pricey side, it still worths a try especially the humungous wooden boat with assorted sashimi and sushi. The Bento is quite usual so as the seared gyoza and soba noodle. What surprises us is that tempuras with extremely crispy exterior, includes fish, shrimps, eggplant, onion and crab legs. In addition, the savory steamed egg custard comes with the bento box set.
