Mammy Pancake 媽咪雞蛋仔 - Egg Waffle or Puff

Egg waffle? Or should I name them egg puff? Mammy's egg puff is so puffy, eggy and not too sweet. Even the original flavor is already enough to get me addicted. I love how it is freshly made to order, hot and with crunchy edges. However, the bottom half of the egg waffle starts to go soggy after a while of waiting in the paper bag. I wish I could have eaten them all at once.

Via Tokyo - The Royal Parfait

Apart from the royal milk tea soft serve, there is this royal milk tea parfait. It is topped with a buttery crispy cookie, caramel syrup, candied almond bits and a layer of coffee jelly at the bottom. The parfait is presented decently in a tall cup, which is very different from the ordinary cup version.

Zushi ANA 鮨穴 - The Grill Experience

From the Zushi ANA menu, you'll find a wide range of platters including sushi, sashimi and tempuras. However, my target tonight are their grills. I am especially fond of proteins and the grilled eel skewer is undeniably succulent, with slightly crispy roasted skins, served aside a slice of lemon wedge and sea salt. The Japanese dumplings are made in pizza style with stringy cheese and tomato paste. Instead of heads, I got this perfectly well-grilled salmon joint and mahi that are scrumptiously fatty and fulfilling. Needless to say the tamagoyaki is always a must for my Japanese meal. It has a few mushroom and a tad sweetness. As a warm round up, the porridge is a super duper indulging; loaded with crab roes and is properly served in a hot stone pot. This is a very nice meal.

Via Tokyo - Latte Art

This is so happen to be my first coffee-visit to Via Tokyo without choosing an ice cream item from them. Since they offer amazing soft serves, I have high expectations on their drinking items. Surprisingly, my hot chocolate is rich, milky and sweet to my liking. It is impressively presented in front of me, that a layer of creamy foam with my name on! The matcha latte is undoubtedly intensive that gives a strong matcha aftertaste and also a cutie Bamax, the cartoon, which has been popular quite recently. The back-to-basic latte is also served beautifully with a Simpson character. This hot-drink visit to Via Tokyo doesn't disappoint me at all!

The Dining Room 南小館 - Cheesy Dim Sum

Cheese and custard filled in a xiao long bao? Who are you kidding? The Dining Room has come up with this creative idea, which includes both of my favourite ingredients too! The mozzarella cheese gives a stringy effect whilst the custard brings a sense of sweetness to the mini steaming baos. The deep fried pork leg is seasoned well with chili spices and cumin, which is absolutely flavourful and meaty. As always, I enjoy the signature pan seared buns a lot with a succulent and juicy filling. The shaomai is decorated with a not-so-appetizing green pea, however has a surprising filling of glutinous rice and cured pork. Needless to say, the meal must end with this lovely dessert platter. Even though we aren't able to get the deep fried sesame pomelo balls (which often only available during daytime), I still enjoy a lot with the silky green tea jasmine milk pudding and the chewy mochi cake topped with osmanthus honey.

Arome Bakery 東海堂 - The Purple Romance

After the chestnut selection during Autumn season, Arome Bakery comes up with a new series for Winter. The purple potato series use Okinawa sweet potatoes to create the typical three - tart, dessert cup and roll cake. The tart has genmaicha sponge and cream within the mont-blanc like purple potato puree, over a crumbly buttery crust. The dessert cup is again filled with smooth purple potato cream, with a dollop of not-so-sweet potato puree in addition to the meringue-like marshmallow on top and has a complex combination of genmaicha sponge and jellos within the cream. They are a scrumptious ornament. While the roll is still soft and spongy, it is filled with a genmaicha infused cream and a few delightful sweet potato puree. In addition, there is this cookies and cream sponge cake. Overall, I think I will put them in this way: Uji Matcha Series > Okinawa Purple Potato Series > Chestnut Series.

McDonald's - Green Tea Sundae

To recall my last experience with McDonald's green tea ice cream, I still remember how awfully sweet the cone was. This month, they expand the series and come up with more selections, such as the Green Tea Double Sundae and Oreo Wafer Green Tea McFlurry. Since I am not a fan of McFlurry nor any McDonald's ice creams, I stick with the most basic choice of green tea swirl vanilla sundae. The sundae with green tea mix vanilla base is topped with the ordinary crushed peanut and chocolate syrup. I don't enjoy the chocolate honestly, but realizing the green tea intensity has been slightly improved and sweetness is still acceptable, I appreciate and pay full respect to finish the cup.

Wu Kong Shanghai Restaurant 滬江飯店 - Simple Shanghainese

It has been a while since I came to Wu Kong for Shanghainese dinner. From the two appetizers, I prefer the vegetarian goose, shiitake mushrooms wrapped with several layers of crispy bean curd, which goes perfectly with the vinaigrette dipping sauce. The deep fried fish is cooked in a slightly too-thick sweet & sour sauce with added pine nuts. As the crispy duck is served in the style of peking duck, the pancake wrappers are nicely steamed to the right softness but I find the batter on the duck meat way too thick, needlessly it has nothing comparable to the one at North in Macau. Undoubtedly, the dim sum are excelled pretty well. The xiao long baos have succulent pork filling with perfect amount of soup; whereas their signature veggie dumplings with tofu wrappers are soft and light in taste. It is a great vegetarian option. The spring onion cake is filled generously and with a puffy golden brown pastry. At last, I really enjoy the caramelized banana, which has presented a crisp and soft contrast.

Green - Garden High Tea

At this world's largest indoor vertical garden bar, the spacious environment has accompanied us a wonderful and refreshing afternoon. The afternoon tea set comes in three tiers with British scones, clotted cream and strawberry jam; plus each a tea or coffee. Obviously, it is comparatively less heavier than the luxurious five tiers afternoon tea at Grand Hyatt Hotel.
On the first tier, an undeniably fresh shrimp is lying in a glass shot with cocktail sauces. Although I really can't stand the duck liver pate but luckily there are this scrumptious tuna tartare with mini pancake and my absolute favourite thick-cut smoked salmon topped with its roe.
On the second tier, all of the sweets are beautifully presented, especially the cranberry cheesecake mousse filled with a layer of raspberry jello, green tea crumbs and biscuit crumbles on top. Perhaps due to the winter season, strawberry is a bit tart but the choux pastry has indeed surprised me with its slightly citrusy custard cream.
On the last tier, there are their signature mini lemon poppy seed cupcakes, lime tart and raspberry opera. The chocolate mousse is ornamented with a bittersweet orange marmalade preserve and a ferrero-rocher-like hazelnut chocolate crunch.
This has been a lovely afternoon spent with my friend :)
