Bistrot Le Fauchon 老富昌法國餐廳 - Christmas Lunch

I often come back to Le Fauchon at Soho for their set lunch and dinner. They offer French cuisine which is quite outstanding at such affordable prices in my opinion, and particularly like their complimentary French baguette basket. For that we visit their Tsim Sha Tsui branch today, where the menu is a bit different yet still exquisitely prepared. The impressive French baguette is served hot to the table, which is the perfect pairing with the seafood stew ordered from the a la carte menu. Apart from the soup of the day - cream of fish chowder, we take the appetizer platter that is plated beautifully in a rectangular plate. We all enjoy the crab meat angel hair pasta as well as the comparatively heavier squid ink spaghetti because of its cream based sea urchin sauce. Both are flavorful and al dente. The rib eye steak layering on a scoop of mashed potato and grilled veggies is cooked to medium, which also looks juicy and tender.
Finally, the dessert platter includes two cream puffs and a tiramisu cake. I personally prefer a tiramisu pudding instead of cake-form. Nevertheless, the apple tart is still luscious with slices of apple baked in a puff pastry that has been stuffed with assorted nuts. The cinnamon ice cream on top is also a remarkable delight on the plate.

I Cremeria - Another Matcha Hit

Hong Kong is experiencing a hit trend of ice cream. I Cremeria is one of those soft serve cafes which signatures Japanese imported fruits, green tea; Kyoto Matcha; Italian coffee and French hot chocolate. As compared to the other ice cream chains, they offer still a creamy soft serve, with good consistency and considerable amount, but the milk version will perhaps be a lighter one. The Matcha is worth to note as they use good quality imported ingredient, and interestingly, some organic rice krispy cereal is layering at the bottom. This would be my next favorite for a comparatively less heavier ice cream!

Mekiki no Ginji 目利きの銀次 - One-month-late Birthday Celebration

This Japanese restaurant offers a range of Okinawan dishes. The food stay intact with the regional cooking style from appetizers, grills, sushi, noodles, rice and desserts. Two of my favorites are the soft Tamagoyaki that is cooked to medium and filled with a salty chilly mentaiko, whereas the battered oysters are fried and lusciously paired with a flavorful sea urchin sauce, resting on a bed of Japanese spinach in a sizzling pan. Apart from mentaiko fried rice and the back-to-basic seafood sushi rolls, we also order a seafood pancake which is made in their Okinawa way. While it tastes similar to Korean seafood pancake but filled with much more sophisticated ingredients, it is quite a heavy dish and is preferably to be shared among 4 to 5 peeps.
Thanks my buddies! It’s never too late to celebrate our birthdays!

Youka 八日日本料理 - The 1st Anniversary Menu

Previously, I was so lucky to win a 1st Anniversary dinner for two at Youka in the giveaway event held by Dining City HK. The menu includes several signature dishes from this Japanese restaurant, where is a place that has been elegantly and neatly designed.
The crab meat with yam salad is creatively combined with ponzu jelly; it is also refreshing to have some seasonal fresh sashimi prepared from the Chef, especially the fatty toro; whereas the Japanese egg custard is silky and topped with cod roe and caviar, hiding a soft pig brain underneath. I personally like the teriyaki-like grilled mackerel fish which has a toasted woody fragrance and as well succulent. The two styled tempura fried oysters are not oily at all, flavorfully wrapped with nori, a kind of leaf and served with a delicious miso paste.
The Don (Japanese rice bowl) is made with my absolute favourite combination of uni and salmon roe, a piping hot miso soup is also served alongside for warming our stomach.
At the end of the meal, we are pleased to have a strawberry & Azuki green tea ice cream parfait to round up this authentic Japanese dinner.

Paul Lafayet - Dessert

The French patisserie, Paul Lafayet, is one of those promising brands in Hong Kong which sell French macarons. Their real deal to French macarons is so recognizable and so as their signature Creme Brulee.
With the App named The Entertainer 2014, which includes over 1000 of hottest offers in town, I have recently redeemed my Lab Made ice creams as well as this creme brulee.
It is so unfortunate that this custard pudding is a take away, the bruleed topping is no longer crunchy but the sugar caramelization is still toasty. The custard is silky and creamy  in a sense that the egg flavor has never been overpowering my palate.
I love their tiramisu! The mascarpone cheese to cream ratio is made at the right portion so as the Kahlua and coffee, soaking underneath the lady fingers. Both desserts have been nailed well!

Le Gouter Bernardaud LGB - Sunday Brunch

As the pioneer in bringing the artistic French pastry Macarons to Hong Kong, LGB does not only present us some amazing freshly brewed coffee and homemade pastries, but also a wonderful classic brunch at the weekend. The egg benedict has cooked to perfection with the soft poached egg exploding its runny yolk, soaking into the lightly toasted English muffin. The egg white omelette is another delightful dish with my favourite gruyere cheese but I wish there are more and meltier.
While the brunch is so amazingly good, the pastries including mille feuille is also wonderfully presented with silky smooth pastry cream that contains generous amount of vanilla pods and tart raspberries, layering between a crispy and caramelized puff pastries; the mount of tiramisu mousse has a strong vanilla taste backgrounded with bruleed pear pieces within the buttery almond crust. Both of them are indeed so delicate and luscious! Lastly, their cup of hot chocolate is made with 70% cocoa which is bitterly dark with a creamy milk foam.

Angelini 意大利餐廳 - An Italian Experience

Behind a theatrical scenery of the Hong Kong skyline, the Chef at Angelini has delivered us an Italian semi-lunch buffet today. At the antipasti buffet table, there are wide ranges of authentic dishes; parma ham with melon, assorted cheeses, caprese salad, grilled veggies, smoked salmon and beef carpaccio. There are also a bread basket corner with bread sticks and flatbread. In addition, each table is served with a complimentary bread basket and each with soup of the day - cream of cauliflower.
As our choices of main course, the saffron risotto is cooked al dente in their tradition way whereas the skate wing fillet is seared to well tenderness. Since it is Christmas, there are a lot of Christmas pastries at the dessert corner with cookies, cheesecake, stollen and panettone that is served alongside vanilla custard; ending with a petit four including pistachio biscotti for our meal. To be frank, I am quite disappointed with their desserts after all.  No matter what, I wish my sister has enjoyed this birthday lunch!
